Club Rainbow (Singapore) was set up in 1992 to provide a range of comprehensive support services for the families of children who suffer from major chronic and potentially life-threatening illnesses. By working closely with KK Women’s and Children’s Hospital (KKH), the National University Hospital (NUH) and the neonatal ward of the Singapore General Hospital (SGH), Club Rainbow presently helps 500 children and their families.

LE supports the mission and vision of Club Rainbow including their Talent Development Fund which is an annual scheme to recognize and nurture the non-academic talents in CRS children and teenagers. Club Rainbow’s TDF was set up with the objective of recognizing and nurturing Rainbow beneficiaries’ talents and as a form of motivation to encourage them to develop that talent. This is very much in line with one of the important psychosocial aims of CRS, which is to build the Rainbow children’s and youths’ self-esteem and self confidence – in this context, by appreciating and cultivating the uniqueness of each of their individual gifts and talents. Since its inception in 2005, Club Rainbow’s TDF has awarded the grant to more than 20 CRS children and youths whose talents range from sports, music, arts to other forms of creative hobbies. A grant is given to the selected recipients to use in developing the talents for example course fees, materials, equipment etc. At the same time, winners of Club Rainbow’s TDF are given the opportunity to showcase their talents at the annual TDF Award Ceremony. The performance platform offers them exposure and a chance to build their confidence.

The Merry Men’s Kitchen + Bar, created as a relaxing space serving up simple, high quality food is also a river-facing bar-restaurant that everyone has come to call ‘home’. Its casual, family-friendly atmosphere figured high on the drawing board and has since kept its founders (merry men themselves) and fans alike happy and bright! A dream come true for four best-buddies, “It was always something we had talked about when we were growing up. We thought that if we were going to drink somewhere, we would want to drink at a place we could call our own”. – Eugene Fung, who gave up his corporate finance job to oversee the day-to-day operations of the bar.  Only two of the four partners – Mr Fung and Mr Shawn Heng, a consultant – are based in Singapore. Lawyer Daniel Song lives in Melbourne and physiotherapist Sam Ng lives in Perth. He adds: “It has been a steep learning curve with everything from staffing to construction, but it is a very exciting one with a lot more fun times along the way.” So just as Robin Hood’s merry men depend on one another, these partners say trust is also one of the most important pillars of their business.
